Practice This To Be Happier

If you learned anything this past year, it is that we need each other.

Science says your relationships are responsible for up to 85% of your happiness.

Pay attention to how connected you are with the people you work with, live with and love.

How?

Practice compassion.

Compassion – for yourself and others – leads to better relationships, happiness, and success.

For example…

Whoever is annoying you has something about them that reminds you of yourself.

They have challenges, needs, and wants – feelings - that are also present in you.

When you recognize that you are more alike than different, you are practicing compassion.

So, how do you practice compassion?

Start with self-compassion. Soften your self-talk – encourage yourself vs. judging yourself.

“You really messed up,” can change to “No worries, you can do better next time. It is okay.”

Being kinder, gentler with your “voice” helps you become kinder to others at work and home.

Practicing compassion creates calm, connection, and peace.

Notice that, “They, just like me, are challenged, stressed…” This insight allows you to relax.

Thinking, “They are frustrated by their heavy workload too,” helps you become more accepting.

Next: be present for the other person. Listen deeply. Limit your judging.

When people feel heard trust is built, tension is reduced, and work gets done. Teams thrive.

We all want the same things – peace, health, happiness, abundance, and loving relationships.

Stop pushing against what is happening and accept (with compassion) that you are challenged.

Accept that they are challenged too. Remember: you are more alike than different.

Think, “They, like me, want peace, progress, love, happiness,” when someone upsets you.

Practice compassion.
