How to Be More Successful Today

happy woman professional with arms crossed

I caught myself feeling lousy today, spinning my wheels.

It was difficult to do my most important work well.

What was going on, what was limiting my effectiveness?

This is so simple, and we all know it works.

Stop the criticism.

Be kind to yourself.

You ask, “But if I am kind to myself, won’t I slip? Won’t I get less done?”

This is such a common misperception.

There is a difference between beating yourself up and encouraging or coaching.

First, let me ask you, how has criticizing yourself worked for you so far?

Do you feel good when you say, “You will never get this right.”

Are you happy when you say, “You messed up again, this isn’t working?”

So, try this – support yourself for success.

Be the coach.

Recognize your progress and encourage yourself.

Start with changing what you say when things don’t go perfectly.

“That’s okay, I did my best.”

“It’s all working out – I am learning every day.”

“I am doing the best I can with the knowledge and understanding I have.”

Let it go – whatever you are berating yourself about – let it go.

Then, give yourself credit for what you have accomplished today.

“You handled that conversation well.”

“Good job on that meeting, well done, keep going!”

Yes, this sounds odd – but science tells us that positive self-talk works.

Speaking positively to yourself, supporting and encouraging yourself, works.

You feel better.

And, when you feel better, life is easier – work gets done, you have more fun.

Stop the criticism.

Be kind to yourself.

This is the way to have a more successful today.
