How to Have an Amazing Meeting – No Matter What

She texted today, “Hi. You are an amazing speaker and coach.

My conversation with Doug was so good.

I can’t believe how easy it was to change the outcome.

Can you teach this to my team?”

Her challenge: her peer Doug was limiting their success on a project.

To Jenn it seemed like he was just being difficult.

I sensed it was more.

Doug is just like you and me. He has personal and work issues on his mind.

The key to connecting with your teammates is to be genuine, empathetic, and kind.

Use a voice that conveys “I really care,” to the “difficult” person.

Next, watch your energy.

Jenn has excellent energy, but her fear of failure shifted her energy towards negative.

She said she expected the conversation to be difficult.

Whatever you expect with negative (or positive) feelings, you will receive.

The shortcut: Focus on having great energy for the meeting and expecting it to turn out well.

Be kind, compassionate, empathetic: “How are you doing? What is going on?”

The reality – Doug had some family health issues he was dealing with.

By listening to his concerns, Jenn became an empathetic friend.

They talked about the project, and what would resolve the issues.

Jenn kept her energy positive and her focus on helping him while achieving their goals.

Energy plus empathy – kindness, compassion, and caring.

This is how to have an amazing meeting – no matter what.
