My client was triggered the other day. Have you ever been triggered?
A negative trigger is something that causes you to feel badly.
It creates an upset; it makes you feel angry, frustrated, out of control.
In his case, he said he wanted to strangle the person. Fortunately, he did not. The person who “triggered” you didn’t create the trigger; they just activated it.
The trigger was created in the past. Your response is conditioned, automatic, a habit. Remember Pavlov’s dog

With each email I wrote my energy was getting lower and lower.
I read one and thought, “Yikes – is this really what I want to say?”
I finally figured out what works, and it freed me. See if this works for you. I put myself in their shoes – then I Iet go. I wrote the email thinking, “What would I like to read if I were them?” – friendly versus “I need this.”

Years ago, I lived the “victim” story. Somebody was always making my life difficult.
I was married so it was “his” fault for my problems. This was the first lie.
